Using a Commercial Sewing Pattern

Sewing

Started 18 Sept
10 British pounds
Kidbrooke Community Hub

Course Description

Have you completed one of our beginners’ sewing classes? Are you ready to take your sewing skills to the next level and learn how to make your own clothes? During this five-week course, our tutor Mary Jane Baxter will show you how to use a commercial sewing pattern to create your own pair of drawstring trousers/pyjama bottoms. You’ll learn how to measure your body accurately, choose the right size, select suitable fabric and interpret all the signs and symbols so that you’ll feel confident about creating your own garment using a commercial paper pattern. Learners will all use the same pattern, so that everyone can support each other during the process. NB: You must purchase your own pattern (Simplicity 1563) and fabric in order to take part in this class, and learners will also need to bring a basic sewing kit of fabric scissors, pins, thread, needles, and a fabric marking pen with them to each session. Next steps: do more FREE GCDA sewing courses and progress to the your next level. Please note a £10.00 refundable deposit is required, if this is a problem please contact: training@gcda.org.uk. Your deposit will be returned on completion of the course, and on request and based on 70% attendance. On registering for this course, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions.
